Lake Naivasha is the easiest escape from Nairobi: hippos by boat, a walk among giraffes on Crescent Island and cycling past zebras in Hell's Gate, all less than two hours away.
What the drive is like
The road climbs out of Nairobi to the edge of the escarpment, where the Great Rift Valley viewpoint is worth a stop, then drops to the valley floor and the lake. It is about 95 km and usually takes 1 hr 45 to 2 hours, depending on the traffic leaving the city.
One way or a day trip?
Staying by the lake? Book a one-way ride to your lodge, and a second ride back for your return date.
Coming back the same day? Choose by the hour and book 8 to 10 hours. Your chauffeur stays with you all day, from the boat jetty to Hell's Gate and back to Nairobi.
